Four Roses expands distillery capacity and celebrates with a new small batch bourbon

Originally published 2020. Small Batch Select has been on shelves since 2019 and is now a permanent part of the Four Roses range.

The Four Roses distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky completed a $55M renovation and expansion, and marked its grand reopening with a new small batch bourbon.

Master Distiller Brent Elliott blended existing recipes, each aged at least 6 years, and bottled the result at 104 proof as Small Batch Select.

From the company's press release: "Four Roses Small Batch Select balances notes of candied fruit with warmth and spice for a nuanced, mouth-coating flavor enjoyable to both casual drinkers and connoisseurs."

It was the first new permanent addition to the Four Roses shelf in over 12 years, launching at the distillery and tasting centre before rolling out through Kentucky, Texas, New York, California and Georgia.

At 104 proof it rewards a proper glass. A tapered rim keeps the aroma where you can reach it; our whiskey glasses cover both nosing glasses and heavier tumblers, and decanters are worth a look if the bottle is going to sit out.
